Halle (Saale), March 25, 2025: Today, the University Hospital Halle and us, together with Saxony-Anhalt’s Minister of Science, Armin Willingmann, are inaugurating the pediatric MRI system neo315. The project was made possible through funding from the state of Saxony-Anhalt.
In theory, various imaging techniques are available for infants and young children. However, in practice, patient transport and the risk of hypothermia pose significant challenges.
We set out to develop an MRI system specifically designed for newborns and young children, which can be installed directly in pediatric units. The vision has always been to improve patient care and make radiation-free examinations more accessible to a broader group. By placing the MRI system directly in the unit, long transport routes are eliminated, allowing children to receive fast and comfortable diagnostics on-site. At the same time, radiology departments are relieved of a considerable logistical and staffing burden, as MRI scans for this patient group have traditionally required significant time and personnel.
In Halle, the project was initiated by the University Clinic for Radiology in collaboration with the Department of Pediatrics II. The system features an integrated local shielding solution and can be installed near the neonatal intensive care unit with minimal structural modifications. The specialist departments will now conduct accompanying studies to investigate how eliminating transport times, enabling more flexible scheduling, and reducing sedation requirements can improve the well-being of young patients.
For us, this installation marks a major milestone. CFO Dirk Meyer comments on the event: “As a native of Magdeburg, I take great pride in what the Neoscan team has accomplished over the past years. I am particularly pleased that, with the support of the state, we have successfully introduced our innovative, patient-friendly technology in Saxony-Anhalt for the youngest members of our society.”
